Herbal medicine professionals use a blend of traditional herbalism and science-based practices to support your personal health and well-being.
Herbal medicine involves using plants for their therapeutic properties, and it’s a practice that’s been integral to human health for millennia. Its history stretches back to the earliest human societies around the globe, and it has evolved through various traditional medical systems into modern times. The practice of herbal medicine often reflects a combination of the culture of the people and the geographic location. In North America, there are many systems of herbal medicine practiced.
At MUIH, you will find herbalists who embrace traditional and cultural practices in herbal medicine alongside contemporary science around efficacy and safety. An herbalist will begin by learning about your reason for the visit and continue with your health status and history. Our goal is to understand you as a whole, and not simply the diagnoses you might have received.
From there, we develop a plan to support you, wherever you are in your health or life. We seek to support areas of your health you may feel additional support would be beneficial, such as optimizing sleep, supporting digestion, supporting heart health, and many other areas of your health you and your herbalist might identify.
Herbalists use a variety of different types of preparations of herbal medicines, such as teas, tinctures, powders, and prepared products available on the market. The quality and safety of the herbal medicines we recommend are paramount, and our clinicians and supervisors will work to meet your lifestyle, budgetary, and cultural preferences when selecting herbal medicines.
Herbal medicine can be a powerful addition to support your health and a clinical herbalist can help you find the right preparations and strategies for where you are in your life today.
Your student intern will gather information about your health and personal history, review your health concerns, and assess your overall health. A student intern and supervising clinic faculty will collaborate with you to craft a personalized herbalism plan to start you on your path to greater health and vitality.
There is no cost for appointments other than the recommended herbal medicines. Most clients require at least three visits with an herbalist, spread over 6 – 8 weeks.
Follow-up visits will revisit prior recommendations and will continue to support and guide you to achieve your health and wellness goals.
